A Look Inside The Human Body – Quite An Experience

Yesterday, in Berlin, I went to a museum called Menschen Thoughts - Words for blogMuseum. In English, it means get under your skin. It’s made from real dead people (seriously!) who have been preserved and presented in a way for us to understand human anatomy. To some it may seem weird, to others, truly enlightening. For me, it was fascinating. I’ve never been to a museum before when my attention has been held for so long by what was presented before me.

It was so fascinating I had to share what I learned from it with you. I’ve talked about the results I’ve had and I obviously talk a lot about nutrition, fitness and balancing hormones and increasing testosterone advice on this blog. Also in the Mojo Blueprint if you’re a member. What I found so interesting about this museum is that I could actually see, with my bare eyes, the organs and how they fit and function inside the body.

Me Mu Tune Your BodyAs you walk through the museum you are guided by an audio guide which explains all. In about 50% of the audios, the importance of regular movement is emphasised as being vital for long-term health: strength, endurance and vitality. You can see the muscles, you can see the organs, you can see the bones, the ligaments, the tendons, the joints, the cartilages. Further on you can even see the nerves that run through the whole body. It’s quite amazing.

Without movement, everything in our body weakens. If you think about it, when you don’t strengthen your biceps by strength training or by using them, they weaken. If you don’t exercise a certain muscle in your legs for some time, you feel it when you work them and they’re sore for days afterwards. What that means, is that muscle was weakening before. It wasn’t being worked and it was shrinking. This is the same for our muscles and our bones in our musculoskeletal system as it is for our vital organs – and even our brain. Whatever we don’t use, weakens. Each day we don’t move and strengthen, we weaken. This is a general rule for the universe isn’t it? Whatever doesn’t grow, dies?

Another big take away from this museum was how obesity affects our vital organs and health. I saw a cross section of a man who had died from a heart attack as a result of being obese. Excess fat isn’t just unsightly; it’s what happens underneath, within the rib cage and inside your body, when the fat is particularly dangerous. Underneath external fat is visceral fat – the fat that surrounds your vital organs. It literally compresses what lies underneath and suffocates your vital organs. We’re told by our doctors that being overweight is unhealthy, but do they never explain as to why it’s unhealthy? No one really knows – from my understanding whilst being alive, unless you take a keen interest in nutrition and fitness. This is where I come in!

Remember that excess belly fat on men particularly, is harmful, as it contains the enzyme, aromatase, which converts testosterone into two forms of oestrogen. This causes testosterone to drop and oestrogen to rise – exactly what you don’t want as a man.

I’m sorry if that was hard to read if you suffer from excess body fat, but I truly believe it’s worthwhile being real so if you do suffer from this, you can start to make positive changes in your lifestyle and diet to preserve your health, lengthen your life, be stronger, be fitter, be energised, optimise hormones, increase testosterone, and be full of vitality. It’s not as hard as you may imagine, either, when you have the right mindset. Check out this post from last week about the power of creating for yourself a strong enough ‘why’ to make serious and consistent changes to get what you want. Success in anything is 80% psychology, 20% mechanics. The mechanics of fat loss are straightforward – it’s the psychology that is the challenge. And it really all starts with creating for yourself, a strong enough ‘why’.

More major takeaways I had are in regard to cardiovascular disease, strokes, high blood pressure, inflammation, lung disease as a result of smoking and liver sclerosis as a result of continuous exposure to toxins, the obviously being alcohol, but there are more. In this museum you can actually see the organs with their defects compared with healthy ones. It’s really interesting to connect all this theory to the actual thing.

Me Mu LiverThe liver, for example, erodes over time when exposed to too many toxins, not just from alcohol, but from the likes of pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, artificial flavours, antibiotics, chemicals, sugar, and any prescription drug (all drugs attack the liver) then the liver has far less time and capacity to function as it’s meant to – metabolise fat for example and convert it to fuel for our bodies. There are so many toxins that we take in daily that screw with the liver.

DARK!!!! This post wasn’t meant to be dark, and it turned out a little dark. It’s not actually hard to be healthy with balanced hormones. It just means ignoring the majority of conventional wisdom – that’s all! Try not to listen to the media and advertising from big food corporations. Stick to real and organic food as much as possible – animals, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, oils, seeds, grasses. Steer clear of anything man made, genetically modified, processed or manufactured and you’re on the road to ultimate health. Cut right back on sugar which is a major cause of obesity, insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. Oh yeah, and that means ignoring about 80% of what’s in the supermarkets. Stick to the outside sections and you can eat super healthy – and tasty – food. Food which is full of nutrients and food which is fuel. Get creative in the kitchen!

If you ever go to Berlin, check out this museum: Memu.Berlin. It’s well worth a few hours of your time. You’ll learn heaps about the human body.
