Body Love Meets Skin Love: A Valentine’s Day Special

Depending on where you are in the world right now, it may be Valentine’s Day. If you’re in the US, we’re hours away. Today I filmed the second live cooking show with Coleen Janeway of Epithereal Skin Care in Venice, California. Coleen is a walking, talking breathing example of how to eat and look after your skin to dramatically slow the aging process. She defies her age like no one I’ve met!

We met in December at a Christmas party and connected when we found we had an interest in common – inflammation. I know what you’re thinking – it’s what everyone talks about at a Christmas party… Hmm.

Last week, we (she) prepared some amazing Paleo muffins, avocado delights and some awesome catfish. This week, given the Valentine’s Day theme, we decided to do something in tune with that – so we picked some foods that are mojo-multiplying, mood-enhancing and skin-illuminating. The condition of your skin is really a direct reflection of what is happening beneath the surface – but of course we’re not told this. We’re conditioned to buy expensive creams and take drugs. When you love your body by nourishing it with the right foods (and by moving and strengthening it and by managing emotions) and you remove the toxins it doesn’t love, not only will your body love you, but your skin will too.

Much of what we eat doesn’t only lead to inflammation but it sabotages our hormones and that affects us in the bedroom whether we want to admit it or not! If you’re a guy, and you think you’re low on testosterone because of your age – think again. (Testosterone doesn’t just affect your drive, but also your energy levels, your ability to focus, your ability to build muscle and burn fat, it reduces fatigue and more). It’s more than likely that you’re inflamed and your hormones are out of whack, and you’re probably deprived of a number of critical micronutrients essential for the synthesis of sex hormones and immune health.  There is so much we can do to nurture our bodies and we aim to show you some simple ways to do this.

Today, we (she) made some delicious oysters (high in zinc, great for testosterone and immune health), accompanied by a delicious goat cheese salad with melon and spinach. This was followed by delicious chocolate FAT BOMBS! Fat bombs people! No sugar, just high fat and nutritious. This suits the ketogenic lifestyle perfectly.
