Many people suffer from inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis, all their lives, never realising that they can be completely reversed through some dietary shifts. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease where skin cells multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. It is one of the most baffling and persistent of skin disorders according to Web MD. Not so baffling when you understand the root of it! Most doctors do not know how to heal psoriasis because they are not trained in nutrition. The root of psoriasis is….inflammation. And our modern Western “healthy” diet is causing many of us to be inflamed without knowing it – or at least, we don’t realise that we are inflamed because we don’t listen to the conditions from which we are suffering. If you have a skin condition, this is your body’s way of communicating with you, that you have something out of balance beneath the surface.
Coming from a family of eczema and asthma sufferers, I know too well, how frustrating skin conditions are. For the most part, my eczema has gone. Diet has had a massive part to play in that. I had no idea that my conventionally “healthy” diet, was far from healthy.
Think of inflammation as this: It is your body’s immune system going into defence. It’s an immune system response to what it perceives as an attack on it. That’s it. When anything enters the body that your body doesn’t recognise, it perceives it as a foreign invader. Now think about what you might be consuming that your body may regard as a ‘foreign invader.’ If you were your body, and you took a really hard look at what you ate, removing all the conditioning from our media, news, culture and society, can you think of some things that as humans, we really ought not be consuming? A clue is anything that is a chemical, processed or packaged or man-made. Another clue is drinking milk from another mammal which is specifically designed for that mammal to grow fast. And one final clue is: to not consume anything that has been altered by humans. This last one is not so obvious. There are more.
