I’m currently in Bali on a work/play trip and I thought I’d report back to you on my findings of the food after a few weeks of being here. On the first day, I noticed the difference in taste between the vegetables and meat compared with what the general consumer is provided with in US where I was before. Everything is so tasty and full of flavour here – Number one.
Secondly, it really hit home to me, just how heavily processed and mass-produced everything (for the most part) is in the States and in the UK for that matter, for the general consumer. It’s so easy to walk into a supermarket there and buy complete rubbish – poison – quickly, and consume it thinking you’re being healthy – be it a processed ready meal or “healthy wholegrain” cereal or loaf of bread loaded with artificial flavourings, preservatives and sugar, or an apparently healthy chicken breast or steak, which for the most part has been susceptible to torture, antibiotics, hormones and unnatural, GMO feed, typically corn or grains. Here, everything is cooked fresh. And you really notice it.
Here, in Ubud, in Bali, I’m consuming tons of fresh organic veggies and drinking lots of vegetables juices, eating healthy fats and organic meats and fish and I’m feeling so good. Even when I stick to mostly organic in the States, I notice I’m more energised here. What’s going on there?! Is organic really organic over there? Is it a better water supply here? Not from the taps, that’s for sure. I’m fully energised, working out regularly, never weak or drained of energy and I’ve dropped a few pounds of fat too without even thinking about it.
It really goes to show, that when you consume decent, wholesome, nutritious, natural food, that you can be fully energised with no highs and lows that we get through consuming sugar and an abundance of high GI carbohydrates that form the majority of the Standard American Diet (SAD) and typical Western diet. This is why I’m a massive advocate of the paleo lifestyle – it’s living as our ancestors used to live, consuming nothing but fresh meat, fish, fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. It’s living as we were meant to – before the introduction of all the processed foods and an abundance of sugar in almost everything there is on supermarket shelves.
Paleo isn’t just a fad, it’s not something that’ll be here and be replaced by the next craze. It’s here to stay as it’s eating real food – real, tasty food at that without depriving yourself of key micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) that we get from plant based foods. You can get wildly creative with paleo and have deliciously tasty deserts without sugar in them. How about that! Desserts without sugar! Oh, and no need to calorie count too as it means cutting out sugar, trans fats and reducing high GI carb intake – so you regulate insulin, your fat storing hormone.
Not to forgot testosterone of course. By limiting sugar and high HI carbohydrate intake, we store less fat which means more testosterone. Remember more fat equals less testosterone.Testosterone drops immediately after sugar and high GI carb intake too, so that’s a double whammy or awesomeness by going paleo and grain-free (grains are high GI, contain anti-nutrients and are inflammatory too). When we consume packaged goods and processed foods which contain preservatives, sugar, artificial flavourings etc, we’re consuming alien ingredients – which over time throw our hormones out of whack. By removing alien ingredients, we no longer create an environment for inflammation to breed and we give our bodies the fuel and energy it needs to be fully energised. And for hormones to be optimised. Nuff said!
