And now for something completely different…Have you ever noticed that weird and tingly feeling when you walk bare foot on the ground or on the beach? I recently read a book called Earthing and it is quite possibly one of the coolest books I’ve read. In summary, the Earth is a sea of negatively charged electrons and we human beings are walking bundles of electrical energy that need to be connected to the ground to absorb the healing energy from the earth, just as we need exposure to sunlight to receive the energy from the sun. In modern times, we are disconnected from the Earth’s healing energy as we are wearing shoes made from rubber or plastic which insulate us from the ground. We also sleep insulated from the ground. When we walk bare foot, we’re soaking up electrons into the body which thin our blood, reduce acute and chronic inflammation, reduce blood pressure, heal wounds, balance hormones, reduce fatigue, correct jet lag, improve sleep, reduce cortisol, even regulate blood sugar levels and help to reverse the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Lots more too. This may sounds wacky but is pretty darn cool.
The author eventually got scientists on board and over about 30 years, put 1000s of people through trials who suffered from a variety of medical conditions, some of which weren’t able to be solved by Western medicines – namely prescription drugs. Shock! An alternative to prescription drugs. In the first few trials, people were able to sleep deeper and for longer with better quality of sleep. This progressed through all sorts of medical conditions, the big one being inflammation that underlies all chronic diseases.
For the sceptics among you, as with everything, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it – providing it’s safe of course. And this starts with walking bare food on the ground. And buying and reading the book!
If you’d like to learn more, without reading the book, then here’s an interview with a co-author, Dr Stephen Sinatra…
