How To Reverse Hair Loss

Huh. I wish I had come by this 10 years ago when my hair started thinning. At the time I went to see a few specialists in London to discover what was going on with my hair and did a fair amount of research on the internet. The reason for hair thinning is down to the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and this occurs to a number of men when they reach the end of puberty.  Low and behold (who says that these days?) all I was offered was a drug called Propecia which was a synthetic hormone which prevented this conversion and thus slowed down the thinning process. Even 10 years ago, I was very reluctant to take any kind of drug – and side effects were horrific, including impotence, swollen testicles, decreased sex drive etc. I decided to grow old graciously!

I’ve just stumbled upon this information about Male Pattern Baldness and I thought must share with you. There are a number of herbs you can take which slow down hair thinning and can even thicken your hair, according to Dr. Josh Axe. What is not listed here is his advice to remove grains and sugar from your diet (there it is again!!) as they cause hormone imbalances, fat gain, oestrogen increase, and all sorts of other health conditions as a result of inflammation.

Here are few things he explains in his video:

  • Saw Palmetto is an herb that’s been shown to block DHT. Supplement with 1500mg per day
  • Adaptogenic Herbs help your body adapt and deal with stress, balance hormones and reduce cortisol levels (also known as the aging hormone). Ashwaganda and Rhodiola are two of the adaptogenic herbs that help stop and reverse hair loss. Take 500mg of each per day.
  • Pumpkin Seed Oil is packed with zinc which has been shown to stop hair loss. Supplement with 1 Tbsp per day.
  • B-Complex vitamins – Biotin helps thicken your hair naturally and Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) supports your adrenal glands
  • Zinc boosts your immune system and repair your gut
  • Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) reduce inflammation and balance hormones, Look for a high quality fish oil like Axe Naturals, Garden of Life or Nordic Naturals.
