How To Reverse Type-2 Diabetes Naturally – Sarah Hallberg, TEDx

Type-2 Diabetes is a result of insulin resistance as a result of continuous, over exposure, to high levels of the hormone, insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for managing blood sugar levels. It is secreted the most when we consume foods high in sugar, namely, glucose (and there are other forms of sugar too). High glycemic carbohydrates and sugar trigger a very sharp blood sugar response. Examples are bread (refined or whole grain), pasta, rice, grains, breakfast cereals and white potatoes. In the Western world, we are simply consuming far too many carbs (and sugar) and now we have an obesity and type-2 diabetes epidemic on our hands – a frightfully dangerous one. Insulin Resistance triggers inflammation and chronic inflammation is linked with almost every chronic disease there is. A reminder about how insulin words: when you eat high glycemic carbohydrates and sugar, your blood sugars spike very sharply. Your pancreas secretes the hormone, insulin, to extract the excess blood sugar from your blood, to prevent it from becoming toxic, and it then deposits it into your muscle, liver or fat stores. Due to the sedentary lives many people are living, the liver and muscle cells are normally full and the excess glucose is deposited into the fat stores and is turned into body fat. This is why people gain weight.  Insulin is your fat storing hormone and for as long as you’re generating high levels of insulin, you will store fat (or not burn it), unless you’re one of those seemingly lucky people who can eat whatever they want without gaining body fat. Don’t you just hate those people?! I say seemingly, as 1) you don’t have to be fat to develop insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes and 2) you’ll more than likely have “skinny fat” which is the visceral fat that surrounds your organs. This is very dangerous and is overlooked and literally suffocates your organs.

What makes me so mad, is the conventional advice on type-2 diabetes. Sufferers of type-2 diabetes are recommended to eat the very things that trigger insulin resistance in the first place, and to then supplement with medication. This is absolutely outrageous. This is like recommending to alcoholics to drink tequila three times a day and supplement with headache pills. As Sarah Hallberg says in this video, type-2 diabetes can be completely reversed by removing the very things from your diet that trigger insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes in the first place: carbs and sugar. If you’ve ever wondered how to reverse type-2 diabetes naturally, here it is: Remove high GI carbs and sagar from your diet and replace them with healthy fats and then you’re no longer generating high levels of insulin. Fat triggers a very low insulin response.  Basically stop doing what triggered it in the first place and there’s no need for any drugs!!   Combine the high fat low carb regime with intermittent fasting and exercise and you can become insulin sensitive again and reverse type-2 diabetes. Never deprive your body of micronutrients – vitamins and minerals from plant-based foods. We can live on vegetables (that also provide fat and protein). We cannot survive on carbs. As Sarah Hallberg points out, our body does not require carbohydrates.  Our body creates glucose in a process called gluconeogenesis. Our body requires micronutrients, fat and protein. They are essential nutrients.
